About us

CECARA is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that since 2001 has been dedicated to scientific research applied to the conservation of wildlife and its habitats. Becoming a foundation gives new impetus to this path of more than 25 years.

Mission

We contribute to the conservation of wild species and their habitats by generating scientific knowledge and involving local communities in their care.

Vision

Wild species and habitats conserved, in a society that knows them, values them and takes part in their care.

Values

  • Scientific rigourWhat we state rests on field data and on work published in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Sustained work in the fieldSince 2001 we have covered the same habitats and followed the same populations.
  • TrainingWe share what we know with students and researchers from different countries.
  • CooperationWe work with farmers, communities, universities, public agencies and organisations in Argentina and abroad.
  • TransparencyWe report how we use the funds we receive, and each year we submit our annual report and financial statements to the supervisory authority.

Objectives

  1. To generate scientific knowledge about birds of prey, other wild species and their habitats, as a basis for their conservation.
  2. To identify the threats these species face, especially those of human origin, and the most important areas for their breeding and feeding, and to propose and apply measures to reduce those threats.
  3. To provide technical knowledge for public policies and farming practices compatible with biodiversity conservation.
  4. To train students, technicians and researchers in disciplines related to biodiversity conservation.
  5. To bring scientific knowledge to the community through environmental education and outreach, and to encourage people to take part in caring for wild species and their habitats.

Activities

  • Research and monitoring programmes for wild animal and plant populations, and ecological studies of their habitats.
  • Threat surveys and measures to reduce those threats in the field.
  • Environmental education programmes for schools, rural communities, farmers and the general public.
  • Science communication: publications, technical reports and outreach materials.
  • Training of students, fellows and early-career researchers in research and conservation projects.
  • Work with farmers and local communities so that farming and wildlife can coexist.
  • Technical advice to institutions and preparation of environmental impact assessments.
  • Collaboration with organisations that specialise in the rescue, rehabilitation and release of wildlife.
  • Joint projects and cooperation agreements with universities, research centres, public agencies and non-governmental organisations in Argentina and abroad.
